We spent some time to settle in Osaka before moving off to the largest castle in Japan, Himeji Castle. To get there, we had to take the JR shinkansen up to Himeji station, and walk about 15 minutes up a straight village like road to get there. Having been to Osaka castle, I was expecting the same kind of deal, but it was much different. It’s hard to think that, a few hundred years ago, the entire stretch of buildings and houses from the station to the castle as you see it below were a part of a castle villa (#12).
A few highlights include passing a french bakery full of sugary goodnees, (#5) eating an unagi (eel) bento lunch box at Koukoen, possibly the best kept garden next to the castle (#9). Check them out below!
